In this sublesson, you will evaluate any software licensing needs. The purpose of this step is to reduce any legal or financial exposure. You don’t want to get 30 days into a project before you learn you need to spend $50,000 for software licenses.
Here are a few considerations:
- Evaluate Open-Source Licensing
- Evaluate COTS (Commercial Off the Shelf) licenses
- Ensure you have the proper number of licenses for number of resources you’re using
You’ll likely want to take an inventory of your current resources and your antcipated needs and communicate with the appropriate finance and legal contacts in your and/or your stakeholders’ organization(s).
